Kirsty Williams received an impressive standing ovation during her first speech as leader in the Liberal Democrat Spring Conference in Harrogate.
In her speech to conference, Kirsty outlined the successes of the party in Wales, including having a female leader, president and vice president. She referred to the great Liberal leaders of the past and contrasted their achievements with the Labour and Conservative parties' "indifference to the suffering their policies cause". "They forgot about the human aspect", she said.
Kirsty emphasised that education is the key to climbing ourselves out of recession and empowering people in local communities. She applauded the policies past by the Conference over the last couple of days to deal with the economic crisis and argued these policies continue the great tradition of the Liberal Democrats leading the other parties on education.
She concluded by pledging to campaign with principle and take the party's message to all corners of Wales. Read the full text online.
